Teachers’ Reading Challenge 2025: Supporting Inclusive Reading in the Class

Books that reflect the lived realities of children from a wide range of backgrounds, cultures, and experiences can be transformative. They help young readers see themselves, connect with others, and discover new perspectives – unlocking the power of reading for more children.

With 1 in 3 children not reading for pleasure, ensuring every pupil has access to books where they feel represented is vital.

Join our expert panel as we share the latest research and practical strategies for using representative and diverse books to inspire a love of reading in all pupils.

Our panellists will explore why representation matters, how it impacts reading engagement and how educators, librarians and reading advocates can champion diverse voices. You’ll hear about the Teachers’ Reading Challenge recommended reads and badges, and how they can help those working with children to sustain a reading habit with books that reflect their experiences and broaden their horizons.

Part of the Teachers’ Reading Challenge 2025, delivered by The Reading Agency in partnership with The Open University, sponsored by HarperCollins.
