Road to Reading

Road to Reading

Sponsored by Kumon

A little reading can go a long way.

It connects us, sparks curiosity, boosts self-esteem, and supports mental health. That’s why we’re inviting parents and older children (who’ve outgrown the Summer Reading Challenge) to join the Road to Reading – a shared journey that can change your life, 30 minutes at a time.

Make a pledge to read each week – together or independently – and see where the road takes you.

Join the Road to Reading and receive weekly book tips, motivation, and encouragement straight to your inbox. Whether you’re carving out quiet time for yourself, sharing stories at home, or rediscovering what you love to read, it’s a chance to build a habit that supports your wellbeing – and brings you closer.

Last year, 73% of participants said it helped them feel more relaxed, and 76% said it added purpose to their week.

“I did it last year, and felt the good effects (more reading time each day) for a long time afterwards. I really looked forward to doing it again this year.”

All reading counts! Short stories, audiobooks, graphic novels, even cookbooks. Yes, even flicking through recipes is reading!

Just 30 minutes of reading a week can make a difference:

  • 20% more likely to feel satisfied with life
  • 18% more likely to have higher self-esteem
  • 52% more likely to feel socially included
  • 37% more likely to enjoy social activities more

“I think it has helped to rekindle a passion for reading at a time when I have felt very lost and low. It has helped bring calmness and structure in the midst of chaos.”

Sign up for Road to Reading and make time for yourself – one page at a time.

Take the next step after the Summer Reading Challenge. Discover books that speak to you.

Our aim is to give students the tools they need to enjoy learning and thrive academically. We support them as they pursue their own potential. By studying little and often through daily worksheets and regular class sessions with their Kumon Instructor by their side, our students steadily increase in ability and fluency, building their skills in small, manageable steps.
