A project to re-introduce beavers brings a town together against a common threat, in this touching tale from award-winning author Gill Lewis.
As Cari and her mum try to rebuild their home and lives after a devastating flood, they hear of a plan to reintroduce beavers into the area. The changes these amazing animals make to waterways could help to prevent further flooding and Cari knows that she has to get involved. But with the project facing resistance from other locals, can she convince them to give the beavers a chance – and will it be enough to save her home from being destroyed for a second time? Particularly suitable for readers aged 9+ with a reading age of 8.A very moving tale of a girl who has lost her dad and doesn't want to move away when her mum wishes for a fresh start. The river floods and ruins the future her mum was planning, but there is hope and Cari needs to fight for it!
It was one of the very best books I’ve read before. I loved Cari as in the characters. Emmi and her mom and dad made me really frustrated.Emmi’s mom was called Mandy. I loved the book. I thought it was more than just amazing. My opinion is that other people who read the same book will have the same thoughts as me. I wish so much that Gill Lewis will make a book atleast a little bit related to Song of the River. I really like Gill Lewis’s stories. My love to Song of the River has to be proven somehow with more than just words!

very good
I really like Barrington Stoke titles: great authors writing accessible and relevant stories. Gill Lewis was popular with several children in my class last year and on the basis of this fabulous rewilding themed story, I'm sure it will be the same again this year!
I loved reading about Cari's journey through the grief of losing her father and the moving house, city and school to support her mother's dream of opening a cafe by the river. The relationship with her mother with its ups and downs feels very real yet is conveyed convincingly in this short story. The discovery that wildlife can assist in preventing the devastation caused by flooding feels very relevant and allows the reader to research more into the topic.
